Owner and designer Sarah Wittenbraker kept her kitchen clean, white and fairly minimalistic — except for that vibrant, graphic rug. No drywall was used in the renovation of this kitchen and living area. Instead, the finished birch ceilings and graphic walls create organic warmth against the metal beams and concrete floor. This space represents a modern, pared-back take on Southwestern style. Vigas are wood ceiling beams in traditional adobe architecture — iconic for the Southwest and particularly New Mexico — and they're the hallmark of this sophisticated dining space. Additionally, a large wood table, ten slipper chairs and a buffet welcome guests.
The American West, whether you’re in the deserts of Utah or the Rocky Mountains of Wyoming, is gobsmackingly gorgeous. At the Shaw Ranch, set within the majestic Wind River Range, huge windows are strategically placed to frame the views, bringing picture-perfect scenes into almost every room. But where views aren’t the focal point (or if you just don't have any), large-scale photography can be used to bring the outside in. Look to the work of Ansel Adams, creator of some of the most iconic imagery of the American West, for inspiration. In the study of the Shaw Ranch, a black-and-white photo of wild horses sits on the fireplace mantel. Elements like a candlestick crafted from a deer antler and a chair by a local artisan further celebrate Western riches.

Taking cues from the owner's oriental rug, the designers chose a warm color palette of rust red, cream and pale blue for this living room in a Santa Fe home. Plush pillows, thick throws and an adobe fireplace in the corner make the space feel especially cozy. The genius design of this space makes it feel like a work of modern art. Natural creamy white walls and wood beams are punctuated by bold blocks of color: emerald green curtains and a bright blue painted cabinet. The stone wall of the living room helps provide texture to the space while bringing in the colors of the desert landscape. Bold, colorful textiles, a cowhide rug and a longhorn-inspired chair make it fun and funky.
Two smaller cube ottomans are covered in grid pattern fabric and sit beneath a shell white, curved-top console desk. It is located just off the great room's seating area. Celery Jones's large, custom-made art hangs high above the room and brings the Texas landscape into your home. Cowboy boots add a quintessential Texan touch. Through open railings, stairwells, a series staircases connect this house. The eye is led through the space by the bold red-and black runner rug. The stairway that leads to the restaurant's first and second floors houses an installation of vintage Bracero caps. It is complemented by a rustic wood dresser, and metal mounted horse heads that create an incredible sense of authenticity. Braceros were Mexican workers who worked in California's fields during WWII when American troops were fighting overseas.
